For Immediate Release:

(eWebWire.com) June 03, 2010 — WORLD WIDE WEB, June 03, 2010 (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) — As a woman, they’re the four words you never want to hear: You have breast cancer. This life altering disease can send many women into a state of shock, panic and spiraling depression. The heaviness of coming to terms with this sudden reality may even cause some women to lose hope. However, today’s Medical Professionals are giving women a reason to fight this daunting disease. Through new technology that assists in early detection and the development of new and effective treatments, breast cancer survival rates are increasing.

Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death for women in the United States. Often discovered by feeling a lump in the breast, this form of cancer can affect women of all ages. Yet, women aged 45-55 are most susceptible to its development. Though there are many risk factors to developing the disease, doctors have yet to pinpoint an actual cure. Despite this, numerous medications, treatments, and surgeries are helping to prolong lives. According to MayoClinic.com, “Your doctor determines your breast cancer treatment options based on your type of breast cancer, its stage, whether the cancer cells are sensitive to hormones, your overall health and your own preferences. Most women undergo surgery for breast cancer and also receive additional treatment, such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy or radiation.”

Whatever method of treatment chosen, the war on breast cancer is steadily becoming a battle that can be overcome. As such, the Public Television series, World Progress Report will be covering information regarding these treatments as well as the organizations and foundations offering support to women diagnosed with breast cancer. “By focusing not only on ways to fight this disease, but also on the support centers having a positive impact in these women’s lives, we hope to inspire people to press on in this fight. And, we know that hope can make all the difference,” said the Executive Producer of the series.
