(eWebWire.com) June 02, 2010 — WORLD WIDE WEB, June 02, 2010 (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) —
Too often we think it could never happen to us. However, approximately 9 million people a year are victims of Identity Theft. This issue has become a major problem within the United States. Yet, despite its damaging effects, the consequences of Identity Theft can often be avoided.
People who monitor their personal banking accounts on a monthly basis and check their credit report regularly are less likely to become a victim of Identity Theft. Also, the safeguarding of personal identifying information is highly recommended. And, when disposing of bills or papers with personal information, shredding the documents can help deter the success of potential thieves. By taking these precautions, people can help protect not only their identity, but also their reputation.
Nevertheless, if a person’s identity is stolen, an Identity Theft Report should be filed with the police immediately. According to the Federal Trade Commission, “An Identity Theft Report can be used to permanently block fraudulent information that results from identity theft, such as accounts or addresses, from appearing on your credit report. It will also make sure these debts do not reappear on your credit reports. Identity Theft Reports can prevent a company from continuing to collect debts that result from identity theft, or selling them to others for collection. An Identity Theft Report is also needed to place an extended fraud alert on your credit report.” By taking immediate action, hopefully a person’s identity can be quickly restored and further damage avoided. “We understand that Identity Theft is a growing problem. As such, through our Public Television series, World Progress Report, we hope to raise awareness and help educate the public on how to avoid becoming a victim of this serious crime,” said the Executive Producer of the series.
